Save the date: The 18th Workshop of Panel Surveys in German-speaking Countries will take place on 26 and 27 February 2026 at the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden. Researchers who would like to report on their experiences with ongoing panel operations are cordially invited to give a presentation – the call for abstracts is now open and will run until 28 November 2025.
The event will be jointly organised in 2026 by the Family Demographic Panel FReDA and the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB) and is a forum for scientists who plan and conduct panel studies. The workshop will provide an opportunity to report on positive and negative experiences from panel operation, highlight new practical challenges in data collection, present innovations, or share findings from accompanying methodological research. Contributions should explicitly relate to the collection of panel studies. This also includes all associated processes such as sampling, panel maintenance, data management, cleaning, processing, documentation and provision of data, and data protection. The workshop is intended to facilitate the exchange and discussion of practical experiences at the working level.
Please send us your presentation idea as an abstract of no more than 300 words to freda@bib.bund.de with the subject line ‘Panel Workshop 2026’. The deadline for proposals is 28 November 2025. We will send out feedback by 17 December 2025, together with the programme. On the same day, we will open online registration on our website. We look forward to receiving your submissions!
